Countries that congratulated President Al-Assad for winning the elections
A number of countries congratulated the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on his victory in the elections, the results of which showed yesterday that he won 95.1 percent of the votes in them.
The latest congratulations were issued by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who renewed his country’s support for Syria, and said that the elections “constituted a victory for peace and Syrian national sovereignty over the fierce war imposed on the brotherly Syrian people who resisted under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad with dignity and patriotism.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Assad, and the Kremlin quoted Putin as saying in a telegram sent to Assad today, Friday: “The results of the vote fully confirmed your high political reputation and the confidence of your country’s citizens in the approach that is being exercised under your leadership to stabilize the situation in Syria and strengthen state institutions in it as soon as possible.”
The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that “the successful conduct of the elections and the broad participation of the Syrian people is an important step in establishing peace, stability, calm, reconstruction and prosperity in Syria.” Tehran congratulated Assad on his decisive victory in those elections.
The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, congratulated Al-Assad and expressed his country’s interest in participating in the process of rebuilding Syria.
Lukashenko stressed that Al-Assad’s victory in the elections represents “evidence of recognition of his absolute reputation as a national leader who firmly protects his country from foreign interference and strives for peace and stability in Syria.”
The Chinese Foreign Ministry congratulated Al-Assad and expressed its readiness to assist Damascus in defending Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said in a statement on Friday that China strongly supports Syria’s efforts to protect its national sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
