The president of Somalia waives his mandate

Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed waived the decision to extend his term, due to security disturbances in the capital, Mogadishu.
The President of the Republic, known as Farmajo, said in a speech before the House of Representatives today, Saturday, that he had instructed Prime Minister Muhammad Husayn Rubli to start preparations for the elections, according to the agreement concluded on December 17th.
The Presidency of the Republic spoke on social media through its account that President Farmajo told lawmakers: “I would like to announce that our Prime Minister Muhammad Hussein Robli will lead efforts to prepare and implement the electoral process, including the main security arrangements with the aim of ensuring that the polling process takes place in a peaceful and stable atmosphere.”
After the conclusion of Farmajo’s speech, the House of Representatives approved the cancellation of the bill extending the presidential term.
All this against the background of Somali army forces tightening control over parts of the capital, Mogadishu, in protest against the decision to extend the mandate of President Farmajo for two years, and the outbreak of clashes between them and other forces loyal to the president.
