majority of the US Senate, from the Democratic and Republican parties, called on President Joe Biden’s administration to pressure Turkey to “protect human rights.”

Fifty-four senators signed a letter accusing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of “marginalizing the opposition, silencing critical media, imprisoning journalists, and waging a purification campaign among independent judges.”

In the message, the following was stated: “We urge you to affirm President Erdogan and his administration on the necessity of immediately ending their crackdown on the opposition at home and abroad, releasing political prisoners and prisoners of conscience, and changing their totalitarian course.”
