Russian and Jordanian negotiations

The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed, in a statement, that Lavrov and Safadi exchanged, during the call, which took place at the initiative of the Jordanian side, “views on the regional agenda, focusing on the situation in East Jerusalem and around the Gaza Strip.”
The statement said that “a deep concern was expressed over the escalation of tension in the Palestinian territories, with an emphasis on the necessity of an immediate ceasefire and the transfer of the issue to the political track.”
The call stressed the continuation of the movement, and the two ministers, Sergey Lavrov and Ayman Safadi, affirmed “the joint determination to continue efforts aimed at organizing direct Palestinian-Israeli negotiations. They also indicated the importance of the efforts of the four international mediators for settlement in the Middle East.”
