An informed source revealed that the UN Security Council is holding closed consultations today, Tuesday, on the political settlement of the Syrian crisis, the first of its kind in a long time.
According to the media, the consultations come in light of “the lack of progress in the Geneva negotiations and the need for a frank exchange of views.”
According to the sources, the meeting of the UN Security Council was held in a closed format: “There is no progress. An open exchange of views is required between members of the Council.”
On a regular basis at such meetings, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Syria, Geir Pedersen, informs the Security Council on the progress of the negotiations at the Geneva platform.
