Falling California population .. Why?

California officials announced today, Friday, that the nation’s most populous state lost 182,083 people last year, 2020.
According to the “Associated Press” news agency, California’s population is now just under 39.5 million, and has seen very small annual increases over the past years.
And last week, the US Census Bureau announced that California would lose a seat in Congress for the first time, due to its very slow growth over the past decade compared to other countries.
State officials blamed the decline in the birth rate, immigration and increased deaths on the emerging “Corona” virus, which killed 51,000 people in 2020.
