Berri: President Aoun has no right to reject Hariri

The Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, considered that the President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, had no right to refuse to assign Saad Hariri to head the new Lebanese government, nearly a year after the resignation of Hassan Diab’s government.
Berri said in today’s statements that “the decision to assign a prime minister is outside the will of the President of the Republic, but rather stems from the decision of the legislative authority.”
Berri warned that the delay in forming a government would not serve Lebanon’s interest, stressing that “the country is collapsing, institutions are eroding, the people are writhing, and the Constantinople wall is collapsing.”
Berri directed his speech to President Aoun by saying: “Everything is collapsing with the rejection of an initiative approved by the West, the East and all Lebanese parties except for your honorable side,” noting that Aoun explicitly rejected Hariri as prime minister.
