Belgium sentenced an Iranian diplomat to 20 years in prison

After his conviction for plotting to bomb a meeting of an Iranian opposition group in France, the Antwerp court in Belgium issued a 20-year prison sentence to the Iranian diplomat, Asadullah Asadi.

Belgian prosecution said that the Vienna-based diplomat was convicted of attempting a terrorist act after German, French and Belgian police foiled a plot to bomb a gathering of the National Council of Resistance of Iran near Paris in June 2018.

Belgian public prosecutor requested the maximum punishment during the trial that took place at the end of last November in the Criminal Court of the Flemish coastal city.
